Part-Time Catholic Youth Minister (Middle & High School)


Hours: Approximately 15 hours per week


Reports To: Director of Religious Education / Pastor


Position Summary:

 The Catholic Youth Minister is responsible for developing and leading a vibrant, faith-filled youth ministry program for middle and high school students. This role fosters spiritual growth, community, and active participation in parish life. The Youth Minister will also coordinate and lead the parish Vacation Bible School (VBS) program during the summer.


Key Responsibilities: Youth Ministry (Middle & High School):

  • Plan, organize, and lead weekly youth group meetings for middle and high school students
  • Develop engaging, age-appropriate catechetical and faith formation opportunities
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages participation and belonging
  • Coordinate a few faith, fellowship, and community growth opportunities:

 

  • Take High School youth to annual DYC
  • A summer trip like Steubenville Atlanta (or something similar)
  • Service (i.e. soup kitchen, visit a nursing home, etc.)


  • Maintain regular communication with parents, teens, and parish staff
  • Encourage youth participation in Mass, sacraments, parish life, and diocesan life


Vacation Bible School (VBS):

  • Plan, organize, and oversee the parish VBS program, with support of DRE
  • Recruit and train youth and adult volunteers, with the support of DRE
  • Engage middle and high school students as leaders/helpers in VBS
  • Coordinate curriculum, activities, supplies, and scheduling, with support of DRE
  • Ensure a safe, fun, and faith-centered environment for all participants


Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain calendars, attendance, and youth ministry ads and social media posts
  • Consult DRE for budget and supplies for youth ministry and VBS.
  • Ensure compliance with diocesan safe environment policies
  • Collaborate with parish staff and ministries that overlap


Qualifications:

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with knowledge of Church teachings
  • Passion for working with youth and fostering their faith development
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Experience in youth ministry, education, or related field preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including Sunday evenings, and occasional weekends
  • Completion (or willingness to complete) diocesan safe environment training


Preferred Skills:

  • Creativity in program development and event planning
  • Ability to relate well to both middle and high school students
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to participate in activities, events, and occasional off-site trips


Compensation:

  • Commensurate with experience and parish guidelines.
